Three things you can do during your work day to reduce stress

Second to home, we spend the most time at work, so why not create a work atmosphere where you have some fun and relaxation? I am a big fan of having a calm and enjoyable day at the office and I am willing to bet that most of you out there would like the same.  Let’s discuss four simple things that we can do during our work day to reduce stress and have a more fluid and relaxed day at the office.  No one ever said that work can’t be fun.

Personalize your environment.
There are a ton of things that you can do to and with your personal space and environment to make it more like home and more relaxing so that you are optimizing the energy and if you have positive energy around you, it will naturally energize and encourage you to do the best work that you can. Put photos up of your favorite things or people. Place some items on your desk that bring you joy. Play music that makes your heart happy. Enjoy working in your space.

Prepare yourself for your day.
If you are a list person, make a list of what you have to get done and would like to get done with the latter at the end of the list so if you do not get to something it can be pushed to another day. The list does a few things, it allows you to prioritize your day from most important to least and it gives you a visual conception so as you complete tasks you can cross them off which will give you a sense of accomplishment as you will be able to visualize what you have gotten done that day.

Have realistic time management.
Number two would be time management, arrange your day and schedule your time wisely, give yourself enough time to complete the tasks you need to without rushing or freaking out. Time management is essential to your stress level when creating a work-flow for your day. If you are making a list of tasks for the week, break it up into the day’s tasks.

Take a break.
Make sure that you take some time to have a break and lunch. Do not skip on this even if it is a 15 – 20 minute lunch and you eat at your desk. Take this time to unplug and not think about work. Enjoy your food, \take some time for yourself and do not work through lunch. Your mind needs a break and you need energy to take you through the home stretch!

Take away:
If one of these things listed above is new for you, take the time to implement it this week. Do it every day for five days. At the end of the week, think back upon your days and evaluate if it made your days more positive. Everyone looks for a huge fix, but in reality, it’s these little things that make the difference.
